“Communication—the human connection—is the key to personal and career success.”     —Paul J. Meyer

We spend many of our waking hours engaged in communication. These activities may include listening to managers, emailing colleagues and texting friends. But, as you’ve probably discovered, communication is not a straight line from point A to point B. This site offers you a “map” of the Communication Skills territory.

A few of our beliefs about communication follow.

  • If we're awake, we're often communicating

  • To paraphrase Mark Twain, there is a big difference between the right word and the almost-right word.

  • Poor communication can be costly.

  • Listening is an undervalued skill.

  • Good communication strengthens relationships.

If you’d like to understand communication better and improve your skills, you’ll find plenty of help here.

This site presents a collection of books, articles and other resources on key communication skills. Tuning into communication is a little bit like a fish tuning in to water. Most of the time, we’re in the thick of it. So, it can be a challenge to step back and see what’s going on in day-to-day events. But we believe the effort is worth it, because better communication skills can help you reach your personal and professional goals.

We don’t expect you to become a communication expert, but it is worth understanding the processes behind good communication and to practice them. You're bound to see a payoff.
